On July 9, 2023, the award ceremony for the grand final of the 2023 "Sci-Tech Innovation Suzhou" Youth Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Competition concluded successfully at the Suzhou Mass Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center. As a core event of Suzhou International Elite Entrepreneurship Week, the competition was hosted by the Talent Office of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and Suzhou Science and Technology Bureau. Supported by the Youth Leading Talents Special Program under the Gusu Innovation and Entrepreneurship Leading Talents Initiative, it adopts an innovative "competition-based evaluation" mechanism to select high-quality youth sci-tech innovation projects and entrepreneurial talents. A landmark event empowering youth innovation and entrepreneurship and driving the upgrading of Suzhou’s sci-tech industry, it enjoys high recognition and authority across the industry.
This year’s competition gathered numerous outstanding sci-tech entrepreneurship projects from the Yangtze River Delta, featuring high-caliber contestants and professional evaluation criteria. The event adopted multiple rigorous screening stages including eligibility review, preliminary assessment, sector-specific heats, and grand final pitch defense. Out of over 180 high-quality entries, only 11 projects with outstanding comprehensive competitiveness advanced to the grand final to compete for major awards. Led by Dr. Zheng Yanchang, Founder, and Wan Guibo, General Manager, Suzhou Kangqi Environmental Technology Co., Ltd. steadily passed all rounds of assessments. Backed by solid core technologies, market-oriented sci-tech solutions and mature implementation plans, the company stood out amid fierce competition and claimed the First Prize in the grand final, taking home the competition’s top honor.
The event fully demonstrated the robust youth sci-tech innovation foundation and sound entrepreneurial incubation ecosystem of Suzhou High-tech Zone. Youth entrepreneurial teams from the zone forged ahead with ambition and claimed a total of seven major awards: one First Prize, two Second Prizes and four Third Prizes. This remarkable achievement stands as solid testimony to the High-tech Zone’s consistent efforts in optimizing the sci-tech business environment and nurturing young talents.
To strongly support the commercialization, iteration and upgrading of high-quality sci-tech projects, the competition rolled out substantial special funding incentives to help tech enterprises address funding shortages for R&D and growth. Grand final First Prize winners are eligible for up to RMB 2 million in special project funding, while Second Prize recipients receive RMB 1 million, delivering robust backing for corporate technological innovation, industrialization of research outputs and market expansion. This award represents full official and industry recognition of Suzhou Kangqi Environmental Technology’s technological prowess, team competence and project value, laying a solid foundation for the company to further deepen its presence in environmental sci-tech innovation and pursue high-quality development.
